Hey, there’s a Jam and Nordeast Summit tonight!
Also, the Just Add Ink opening is this Friday!
I will be at the Red Hot Art Festival this weekend selling my wares! I’ll be debuting a few new items, including full color prints of my most popular comics and a new mini-comic called “Pretending You’re Not Crazy”, which is a collection of depression and recovery themed comics from the website! Hope to see you there if you can make it!
Here is a list of links and news items related to my comics:
Introspective Comics mentioned on MTV Geek! – To my surprise, my comic was mention in Kleefeld on Webcomics, which is part of MTV Geek! Kleefeld covers a wide variety of high quality comics, so I was honored to get a mention on there.
Guest Comic on Action Athena - I made a guest comic for my friend Athena Currier. It was a lot of fun as I got to draw myself as a bitter old man.
Cartoonist Conspiracy Pony Jam - We got to make a comics jam about My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic for “Red Tenderson”. This was actually one of our tamer jams (the beastiality is only implied, but it might not be safe for safe for work.
Geek Report - I was on the last episode of the Geek Report. I was a little befuddled due to lack of coffee, but it was a fun show about toys, movies, and making fun of “Red Tenderson”.
So yeah, last week was a good week.
For the past couple weeks I’ve been working on a new issue of Plunger-Man and the Super Plumbers. To celebrate, I am posting of a Plunger-Man sketch my friends and I performed in college.
Plunger-Man (Live-Action Singing Skit!) from Simple Son on Vimeo.
A little background: Plunger-Man was a character I created in tenth grad (although he was called Plungemoman back then). In college, under a fit of boredom, I put together a Plunger-Man costume made from red long-johns, yellow shorts (from a thrift store), and yellow dish gloves. I would frequently wear the costume in dorm rooms as a passive-aggressive way to draw attention to myself.
This all cultivated in a series of videos for a campus show called Study Break! It also resulted in the above sketch for a variety show called Kastle Kapers. The amount of positive response from it was immense. It was one of the most successful things I had done at the time.
The last time I visited my parents house, I had a chance to rifle through my old things and found the above video. Thanks to my new friend David Cohen, I was able to have a digital copy made, which is what your seeing above.
Years later I would take the basic concepts of Plunger-Man from college and translate them into comics. So that’s where it all came from.
I was on the Webcomic Beacon this weekend with Lezley Davidson and Rori discussing Journal Webcomics. You can listen to the episode here.
