I also avoided make comics about being single because I thought the whole “sensitive but narcissistic cartoonist who pines for romance” thing was a cliché. I’m not sure where I got that idea. Aside from Blankets, I can’t think of any comics that follow that trope. I mean, Jon Arbuckle struck out a lot, but he was never all that Emo about it. Anyway, I did make a few comics about being lonely, but I really, really did not want that to be the thrust of what my comics were about.
