The Water's Not Fine

The Water’s Not Fine

I went to my home town yesterday to visit my folks (including my niece and nephew).  We also went swimming, which I hadn’t done in years.  It was an outdoor pool, and as the comic suggests, the water was very cold.  You got used to it, but it took a while.

In those situations I find it best to just dive in and get it over with. It’s a lot easier to have one moderate shock than a lot of little tiny ones.

I suppose taking a cold shower each morning and jumping in a hole in the ice after a hot Sauna, as Norwegian cartoonist Kim Holm (Den Unge Herr Holm) does, is not very appealing to you? No blood-bonding and fire walking either I suppose? Maybe listening to loud music so it keeps ringing for hours after you’ve stopped listening? Or driving a bike through hour? Playing checkers, perhaps?

Why do people like discomfort? Is it because it makes them feel more alive? What has Lil’ Buddha to say about that, Ryan?

Fluffy – There were some people just diving in, and maybe 5 or 10 years ago I would agree with you. I just can’t dive into things anymore.

To Rene: I’m guessing people like extremes because it makes them feel more alive. I have a better time dealing with extremes in increments.

To Vas: Yeah, I’m pushing the boundaries a bit, but panel four was a memorable part of the event.

  4. Vas says:

I am so proud of you. *HUG*
