How I Watch Movies

This is why I don’t watch many movies.

I haven’t seen Scott Pilgrim yet, but I’ve already listened to a podcast interview with the director (I wish I still had the link).  I will be seeing the film this Thursday at the Scott Pilgrim Precious Film Festival, which you should go to if you’re in the Twin Cities Area.  It’s all a prelude for the Minneapolis Indie Expo, which is this Saturday.

So yeah, fun times!

That’s kind of like me sometimes, but usually I see the movie first and then all the other stuff.

But I’m pretty neurotic when it comes to movies. First of all, I have a lot of DVD’s that I haven’t even watched, and then a bunch that I haven’t seen for years, and then some that I have seen recently but could easily watch over and over. So I made a spreadsheet on the computer of all the movies, and gave them qualifiers like how badly I want to watch them, whether I’ve seen them already, how recently I’ve seen them if I have, and of course the genre. And, since I have some on iTunes only, I also added that qualifier.

So when I want to watch a movie, I have to go to the spreadsheet and rank them in order to figure out what I’m supposed to watch next.

And if I really love a movie, I don’t consider it “watched” until I’ve exhausted every last drop of bonus content from the DVD’s. Of course, some movies I just don’t care enough about, and then I try to get rid of those movies as fast as I can to make room for more.

BTW, great strip. I love your expression as you’re listening to the director’s commentary. So enthralled!

I have a general rule that I won’t buy any new DVD’s until I’ve watched all of my current DVD’s at least once. I also rent movies from Redbox, which doesn’t give me any extras and offers an incentive for getting the movie back as soon as possible. I only use Redbox for movies that look like they might be terrible, though.

But yeah, if I like a movie, I’ll watch it every way possible.

To BEATY: Man, I need to read more.

To David: No, it was more of a Two-Guys-And-A-Skype kind of podcast. But I still can’t find it.
