I do have a sabbatical planned down the road, but I’m not ready for that yet. I did take a small trip to the library today, which qualifies as a nice break.
As for the sabbatical, don’t worry. I will have a buffer of comics to run on this site during the downtime.

Hmm, today’s comic hits home. I know we’ve talked about it before; but the line “You make every mundane decision into an existential crisis” sounds like something my wife would say to me. Not that you sound like a woman. She’s just really good at seeing through all my what-does-it-all-mean B.S.
It does seem like when you are always asking yourself the big questions, you either think everything is important, or you decide nothing is really important. What’s the truth? It seems cliche to say that it’s something in the middle–some stuff is important and some stuff isn’t. Is it really that easy? Is it dumb that I’m even spending the mental energy *asking* this question? Aaargh.
I need a sandwich.
At this point I think it’s up to everyone to decide for themselves what is important. In the grand scheme of things everything may be unimportant, but in the here and now something has to be important.
Importance is a matter of perspective. My children feel that thier nightly ritual of watching “Everybody hates Chris” before bed is important, while I feel that all television could go to the wayside and our society would be better off for it. You are important. At times it may not feel like it but you are. When I am feeling down(like today), reading your comics cheer me up, and that is no easy feat. Your comic is genuine and relatable. To me and many others, it is very important.
I appreciate that, Lance. Maybe everything is important, in the sense that it is important to at least someone.
Man, I can totally relate to this strip. I think it’s really important to give yourself breaks when you need them. It’s something you really have to TEACH yourself. When you’re a kid, your parents tell you when you’re tired, or hungry, or sick. When you’re an adult, you have to make all of those calls on your own… Some of us hate to admit weakness, so we don’t give ourselves the little breaks we need. I say, GO TO THE LIBRARY, MAN!
I agree with Athena! Everyone eventually should come to an “observational point” every once in a while to take a serious look at the situation and put things into the priority list they belong in. Taking time for yourself to “recharge your batteries” is crucial! That’s why I love wandering through the MIA as well as attending Conspiracy jams. They’re the way I “recharge” and escape from my normal hectic routine.
It’s kind of funny mentioning breaks as I took a sick day from work today. I was definitely feeling rotten and needed to take it easy. I think what Athena said was interesting about parents telling us when we’re tired, because I have nieces and a nephew who don’t seem to realize when their tired themselves.
And for those who don’t know Jon, he’s one of the hardest working people I know. I would have cracked well before now if I had to work his hours.
