Ryan, I really love this comic, and I read it every week. But I have to tell you… the story moves along so slowly in comic-time that any sort of plot advancement usually takes a month in real-time! It sometimes makes it hard to stay invested in the story. What are your thoughts?
Uh oh, I’m not liking the way that last panel is looking….some segue into another tricky situation. Lessee…..job ok, Carl and others doing ok for the time being….I’m wondering what dark cloud looms on the horizon.
To Rembrand – I’ve actually known some people who LIKE working phone support. I agree with you though. It’s not my cup of tea.
To Dan – Yeah, I took a reference photo of a hospital near where I live.
To Jon – Yes, conflict will be rearing its ugly head.
To Jeni – I’ve given you’re comments some serious thought. I’ve also been frustrated with the slow pace of this comic, and I think the problem has been the weekly schedule. So for the next two weeks, I’ve decided to release two “Weekends With Carl” pages per week. If things go well, I’ll release two pages per week from then on indefinitely.
So stop by here next Wednesday for the next page of “Weekends With Carl”.

I agree with Jeni in theory, but the truth of the matter is that if you up the ante on your page count, it becomes MORE WORK, and you might get sloppy. Its as important for you to be excited and enthused about your work as well as the reader. If you create more work for yourself, you might push it away. The simplicity of your comic iits greatest asset. Thats why I check in once a week.I love your stuff Ryan. I can’t wait for some closure, hoping a hardcopy will soon follow….
To Bud – I understand the concerns, and I’m planning to more back to one page per week if I start burning out. But the pages haven’t been taking me as long to finish lately, and I’ve finally built up enough of a buffer where I would feel comfortable releasing two pages per week.
Also, part of the reason I’ve been wanting to speed things up is that I’m impatient to get to the interesting parts of the story. So in a way I’m doing this because I’m excited about the work.
Oh man, helpdesk sounds like my idea of hell. A buddy of mine works at one, for IBM. It might explain the drinking…

I like the hospital panel. It turned out nice.
