I’m taking a bit of a risk with this page. I’m basing a character off of someone I said I wouldn’t write about anymore. But that was a long time ago, and the odds of her stumbling on this comic are very slim. If she does find this, I want to tell her that I’m sorry for dredging up all of the stupid things I did in the past. It’s what I do. I am not doing this to hurt you or make you look bad. I am doing this, as always, to sort things out that I have trouble talking about.

Your “flashback effect” is very subtle. It gets the point across without distracting from the overall look of the page and the series.

Ryan’s hair was so LONG back back when he was in school. What a hippie! I almost didn’t recognize him.

  2. I know how you feel about posting “flashback” or past stuff/people up. But we all know that your intentions are only to help your craft, and not to hurt or provoke others. No worries, there. You are an artist, true to your work.

  3. Ryan Dow says:

To McCarthy – Um, you do realize I’m the one on the left, right? And actually, I had a goatee and braces back in school. I thought about drawing myself that way, but I thought it might be too confusing.

To Jenny – Yeah, I think it will be all right, but I wanted to put in a disclaimer anyway. Making fiction so closely based on my life (and this story IS a fiction) is risky. There’s potential for all kinds of misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Have you ever run into stuff like that with your journal comic?
