I Hate Bars

I Hate Bars

This comic is loosely based on a night out with my fellow coworkers, but really it’s about my dislike of bars in general. Especially the kind of bars where all you do is sit, drink, and run up a large tab. It’s so boring! Of course, this has everything to do with the fact that I don’t like to drink. But that’s a topic for another comic.

As for the “When is the waitress coming back?” line, I was honestly waiting for the waitress to bring us back a bill. I didn’t realize we were running up a tab at the time. I felt trapped because I didn’t want to walk out of there without paying for my Diet Pepsi and pancakes. Yes, I had Diet Pepsi and pancakes at a bar. I’m that lame.

I feel a little bad about portraying my team lead, Titus, as the “drunk twit,” because he’s really not that obnoxious in real life. Actually, he’s not obnoxious at all. He’s a pretty nice guy. I pick on him mainly because he’s easy to draw, especially when he’s drunk. And the woman in panel 2 was supposed to be Jenny, another coworker, but it doesn’t really look anything like her.

Transcript

When’s that waitress coming back with our check?
My coworkers really wanted to come here after work.
I figured, sure. Why not? What else have I got to do?
Now it’s… Jeezus! It’s 9:45!
I hate bars. You sit around for hours eating and drinking overpriced crap while some drunk twit gives you unsolicited relationship advice.
This is why I don’t socialize much.

I can really empathize with this one. I used to work for almost three years at a bar/restaraunt in St. Cloud when I was going to school at SCSU. I would almost NEVER stay after to share some social time with my co-workers. I hate bars, and especially can’t handle being around drunk people. After working about 6-7 hours around same demographic, I really didn’t want to stay any longer than needed.

i don’t think that’s lame, i actually find it kind of nice. all i ever here is alcohol this and that from friends and i think it’s very overrated. besides, pancakes are good for anytime. day or night

That’s true. Pancakes ARE good anytime, day or night.
