Easter

Easter

For those not in the know, Rummikub is a tile based game where you try to get rid of all your tiles by setting them down as rows or sets. We almost never have a family gathering on my mother’s side without playing Rummikub. As for the fertility symbols… well, it’s no fun if you have to explain. In retrospect I wish I would have included frogs, since they also sometimes show up in Easter and are also considered fertility symbols in some cultures.

Easter has never been my favorite holiday.
Don’t get me wrong, any holiday that promotes the consumption of jelly beans and Cadbury eggs is a good thing.
And the themes of resurrection are kind of nice, but…
Maybe it’s more of a woman’s holiday.
What with all the pastel colors and fertility symbols.
Maybe it’s because my family never did much for Easter.
I think we had only one Easter Egg Hunt.
Most of the time, we sat around my grandmother’s house all day playing Rummikub.
Not the most engaging thing for a six-year old.
