I spent an extra week on this comic because I really wanted it to look right (or as close to right as I could get it). I took digital photos of prominent buildings in Downtown Minneapolis and traced over and colored them with Gimp and a stylus (again, I’m a hack). I also really played around with perspective in this comic, so much as to completely redraw the last panel to give it a “walking off into the sunset” feel. I also added an extra layer of shading and highlights to make the comic seem more three-dimensional. I did away with the “Introspective Comics” logo to make more room. Last but not least, I finally figured out how to draw straight lines in Gimp!

I work in Downtown Minneapolis. It’s noisy, ostentatious, polluted. The commute takes too long. Parking is outrageous. But part of this place fills me with childish glee. It’s Metropolis. It’s Gotham. It’s Astro City and the City of Townsville. It’s the archetypal “Big City” of my youthful imagination. Where a geeky country hayseed like Clark Kent can be destined… for greatness.
