Getting Away...

Getting Away…

Here it is. The opening salvo. The very first Introspective Comic.

One my goals in starting Introspective Comics was to create a comic with the sort of ponderous, portentous (and maybe a little pretentious) tone I found in some of my favorite comics. This specific comic is inspired by a scene from Seth’s Wimbledon Green, where Wimbledon is wandering down a deserted city street musing on the “soul-revealing” moments of his youth. The gray color tones were meant to be a nod to Wimbledon. I also used metallic tones that were a nod to “We Were Not Made for This World” from Project Telstar, which features a robot wandering through the desert pondering his place in the world.

Character design was also important. In my original sketches, the main character had a boxier head with a pointed nose. I eventually rounded the corners to give him a younger, warmer look. The original also wore glasses, like me, but I eventually drew him with beady eyes instead to give him a vacant yet expressive look, like someone who is often lost in thought.

It’s so nice to get away.
Out here.
Where my thoughts…
Can finally…
Breathe.
Moments like these are all too rare.
But that’s what makes them so sweet.
